The Safe Hands Project – Overview

The Safe Hands Project is a two-day creative wellbeing initiative taking place on Saturday 21st and Saturday 28th February 2026 at the beautiful WWT Castle Espie, Comber. Designed to harness the power of craft as a catalyst for awareness and social change, the project offers participants a supportive space to explore themes of personal safety, respectful relationships, and community wellbeing. Across both days, sessions will be facilitated by professional artists and makers from the North Down Craft Collective, bringing expertise in ceramics, printmaking, textiles, and other tactile craft practices. These interactive taster workshops allow participants to immerse themselves in hands-on creativity, using the making process as a way to reflect, express, and connect.

Alongside the artistic experiences, representatives from Women’s Aid NDA will be present throughout the programme. They will deliver talks and provide information linked to the Ending Violence Against Women and Girls (EVAWG) initiative, creating opportunities for meaningful conversations around safety, respect, and support within relationships and communities.

Through the combination of creative practice and guided discussion, the Safe Hands Project aims to encourage reflection, spark open dialogue, and promote greater understanding of what respectful, healthy relationships look like. The project offers a unique blend of art, awareness, and empowerment—placing participants’ wellbeing firmly at the centre.
